Username vs. Display Name

Neither field accepts decorative Unicode. Roblox's filter rejects mathematical alphanumerics, symbol frames and emoji outright. Any site telling you otherwise is out of date.

So What Actually Works on Roblox

Since symbols are off the table, a good Roblox name comes down to the word itself. Patterns that pass the filter and still look considered:

• Compound words — VoidCrafter, LunarDrift, EmberSkye
• Deliberate misspellings — Xandyr, Kaidence, Nyte, Zephyrr
• Underscore separation — cosmic_fox, silent_ember (one underscore only)
• Number suffixes that mean something — a birth year or a lucky number beats random digits
• Aesthetic word pairs — softbloom, moonlitash, glassheart

The styles above are still useful for Roblox — just not in your name. Use them in group descriptions, game titles and chat, which are less restricted.

Roblox Name Filter Rules

• Under-13 accounts get a much stricter filter — many ordinary words are blocked entirely.
• No consecutive underscores, and none at the start or end.
• Blocked substrings — the filter checks inside words, so an innocent name can fail because of the letters in the middle of it.
• Username changes cost 1,000 Robux and your old name is not released for others to take.
• Display name changes are free but limited to once every seven days.

Because display name changes are free, test there first. If a name passes as a display name, you know the word itself is not blocked before spending Robux.
